School Counselors and SCECHs

There are new SCECH rules for school counselors starting February 6, 2020.

Michigan Compiled Law (MCL) 380.1233 (7-9) was amended in 2017 requiring school counselors to complete fifty (50) professional development hours specific to college and career preparation to renew effective February 6, 2020.

  1.   25 hours – college preparation and selection; and
  2.   25 hours – career consultation; 5 of which MUST include the exploration of military career     options.

Only State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECH) can be used to complete the 50 hours of professional development required by law.
