MNSAA School of Distinction Opportunity

Blue RibbonCongratulations to St. Michael School in Livonia for Receiving their 2nd School of Distinction Award!

Within the seven-cycle accreditation process, each school will be visited during the third - fourth year as a check on progress being undertaken.  On the basis of information gained through the self-study, annual reports, and the interim discussion visit, if it is determined that the school has resolved the concerns indicated in the site visit report, compliance issues are in order, and there is a written three-to-five year strategic plan in place, the school may be recommended to seek the challenge that may lead to an award known as “School of Distinction.”

If the school accepts this challenge to raise the bar for school improvement, the school improvement team determines two or three substantive goals (reviewed by Regional Council members) that will become its focus and replace the traditional annual report format.

  • The goals must be directly linked to the school improvements and must have positive impact for students.
  • The goals must be an enhancement of MNSAA Standards as cited in the self-study manual.
  • The goal results must be measurable.

The school then has usually two to three years to achieve its goals and report success.  The new annual narrative report includes:  specific goal s and action taken or documented progress.

As goals are achieved, the school improvement team prepares both written documentation and as well as presentation to members of the Regional and/or Leadership Council.  When goals are achieved, the school will be expected to have a presentation of results at one of M-A-N-S sponsored conferences.

The school would receive the “School of Distinction” designation for the year in which the success was achieved.

The following schools have received the "School of Distinction" designation. Congratulations!
