MI-LIFE logoMichigan Leadership Improvement Framework Endorsement

MI-LIFE is a professional learning program for Michigan Educational Leaders that is stimulating, inspiring and challenging and will cause school leaders to confront and question their current assumptions about leading, teaching and learning. The curriculum provides technology-rich courses that, when successfully completed, can earn school leaders 18 State Board Continuing Education Units (SBCEUs) or six university credits, as well as a Michigan Leadership Improvement Framework Endorsement, if eligible.

This program was originally developed from a grant from Microsoft Partners in Learning Program to the Michigan Department of Education with oversight from the state’s professional associations including MASA, MEMSPA. MASSP, MANS, MAPSA.

PRACTICAL CURRICULUM:  The MI-LIFE Educational Leadership Curriculum is structured into two Learning Units comprised of six face-to-face sessions and one instructor-led online course.

  • Building 21st Century Leadership provides the leadership foundation for the MI-LIFE Curriculum. Leaders focus on self-awareness as they journey through interactive, introspective reflection on their leadership skills, behaviors and responsibilities.
  • Data Leadership focuses on identifying the work for continuous improvement in districts/schools and classrooms and the implication that data analysis has on student achievement. This course centers not only on what the data say but how the work may change when multiple sources of data are intersected/analyzed to create an accurate profile for greater accountability.
  • Aligning Systems examines the interconnectedness among the elements that comprise the whole system to determine how a change in one area of the system may impact other areas of the system and how that influences the work to be done.
  • Building a Culture of Shared Leadership and Capacity for Continuous Improvement views leadership as a collective, shared potential among many stakeholders and explores the health or toxicity of the environment to create the right culture for a purposeful and robust professional learning community that ultimately impacts student learning.
  • Instructional Supervision redefines the role of the principal from instructional leader with a focus on teaching and instructional strategies to learning leader of a professional community with a focus on student achievement and results.

FEE: The fee to participate is $1200 per participant and includes instruction and materials for the 6 face-to-face sessions and the online course, as well as a one-year subscription to an online survey program. For administrator/teacher teams of 4 or more, the fee is $1000 per participant.

MI-LIFE can conduct the program directly in your district depending on the number of participants or, once interest is determined, MI-LIFE will identify an ISD/RESA in a location that is convenient for most participants.
WHEN: MI-LIFE can tailor the program to meet your educational schedule and calendar.
ELIGIBILITY: Participants must be current ISD, diocese, district, or building level administrators in public, non-public or charter schools.
